KMC (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) Water Supply Department is responsible for water supply across all 144 wards of Kolkata. Common complaints include no water supply, low pressure, contaminated or discoloured water, pipeline burst or leakage and water billing disputes.
To file a complaint, call 1916 (national water helpline, toll-free, 24/7) or KMC toll-free 1800-345-5303. Email waterworks@kmcgov.in with your Consumer ID (on your KMC water bill), ward number, address and a description of the problem. Complaints can also be filed at <a href="https://www.kmcgov.in" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">kmcgov.in</a> under the Water Supply section. Note the complaint reference number.
KMC operates under the West Bengal Municipal Corporation Act. If KMC Water Department does not resolve satisfactorily, escalate to the KMC Mayor-in-Council through the grievance cell at kmcgov.in. Further escalation can be done through <a href="https://pgportal.gov.in" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">CPGRAMS at pgportal.gov.in</a> under Government of West Bengal, or approach the consumer court through <a href="https://edaakhil.nic.in" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">edaakhil.nic.in</a>.
For water complaints outside Kolkata in West Bengal, contact your local municipality or the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) of West Bengal.
